Spiritans: Yesterday and Today
The Holy Ghost Fathers and Brothers, South-East Province of Nigeria, is the largest in the Congregation of the Holy Ghost (Spiritans) worldwide, with over 556 members working in 45 countries and 5 continents of the world. Our history in Nigeria dates back to 1885 with the advent of the Irish Holy Ghost missionaries in Onitsha.
They made huge contributions to our people, in the areas of education, evangelization and humanitarian services in the present day South-East and South-South geographical areas. With their repatriation in 1970, the indigenous Spiritans continued these works of evangelization and humanitarian services not just in Nigeria but in Africa and the world at large. Presently, we are faced with the challenge of an aging population of Spiritans and a healthcare system under immense strain, thus, the dare need to provide support and care to our vulnerable Priests and Rev. Brothers, most of whom have toiled from place to place spreading the gospel of God’s grace. Despite the economic situation of our nation, our Province has continued to see to the welfare of these our sick, retired and elderly gallant men. However, as the Province enlarges, the task of welfare becomes huge. To shoulder this huge but vital responsibility, the Province birthed the Spiritan Healthcare Apostolate(Spiritan HECAP).
Spiritan HECAP –A Ministry for You
The Spiritan HECAP as an initiative of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Province of Nigeria South-East, provides a platform through which the people of God can participate in the care of our elderly, retired and sick missionaries, thus participating in the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.
The beneficiaries of this apostolate are the sick, elderly Holy Ghost Fathers and Brothers with ailing health who have toiled from place to place spreading the gospel of God’s grace and love in the days of their youth; and also other sick members of the Congregation.
We kindly request that you JOIN the Spiritan HECAP and become a SILENT HEALER, offering prayers and financial contributions towards the healthcare of Priests.
